SU's Center for Healthy Communities Goes Green for Children's Mental Health

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Center for Healthy Communities continued its commitment to supporting Maryland’s Children’s Mental Health Matters campaign in May by uniting the campus community on Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.
Led by SU’s College of Health and Human Services student ambassadors, the campus was encouraged to wear green to show public support for children’s mental health.
“Physical and mental health are equally important,” said Dillon Otero, junior exercise science major ambassador of Owings, MD. “Hosting events like these is a fun way to promote awareness, and it’s great to help people feel more connected.”
Ambassadors supplied a variety of green-themed giveaways to students and guests, including calming strips, magnets, stickers and bracelets.
“SU is very understanding when it comes to mental health,” said Campbell Ruffhead, junior exercise science major ambassador of Reisterstown, MD. “They have mental health awareness promotions throughout campus to provide information and resources for students to get the help they deserve.”
Family and educator resource kits from the Maryland public awareness campaign for Children’s Mental Health Matters also were available for those interested in support surrounding crisis services, finding providers, combatting substance use and navigating a variety of diagnoses.
“These events are great for catching the attention of students who may not be familiar with mental health resources and awareness efforts,” said Hannah Morton, senior health science major ambassador of Westover, MD. “Catching them spontaneously around campus helps to reach a broader audience and bring more attention to an issue that impacts so many.”
