SU's Henson Medical Simulation Center Earns ASPE Accreditation
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Richard A. Henson Medical Simulation Center recently earned accreditation from the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE).
“This recognition is a testament to the demonstrated history of dedication by SU’s Sim Center team,” said Dr. Matt Laurent, dean of SU’s College of Health and Human Services. “ASPE accreditation honors their commitment to ensuring SU remains the preeminent hub of the most advanced and diverse simulation offerings. Thanks to this experiential learning, our students are embarking on careers in health care with a profound foundation in high quality technical and interpersonal skills.”
SU is one of 19 simulation centers nationally included in ASPE’s inaugural accreditation cohort.
ASPE accreditation provides validation of meeting standards of practice by the global leader in human simulation; offers guidance to programs on how to conduct operations in accordance with simulation standards of best practice; and represents a commitment to quality educational programming and assessments, ensuring ongoing quality control.
SU’s center is the only free-standing, collaborative, multidisciplinary health care pre-professional experiential learning facility on the Eastern Shore and has offered simulation and community outreach programming for 13 years.
The center features a 600-square-foot anatomy learning lab that contains five virtual cadaver dissection tables and a 9,000-square-foot flexible, practice environment that replicates real-world clinical settings. Through the use of advanced robotic patients, standardized patients and sophisticated prosthetic simulators, the center provides the opportunity to practice skills in a safe learning environment.
ASPE is an international organization of educators dedicated to human simulation and transforming professional performance through the power of human interaction.
