Spring 2026 Campus Champion – Professor Rob Kantzes
The Center for Student Achievement is honored to recognize Professor Rob Kantzes as the CSA Campus Champion. Rob has been a wonderful partner to the CSA and an advocate for the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program over the past several years. Since the Fall 2017 semester, Rob has partnered with the CSA, mentoring 18 different SI leaders during that span. Many semesters, Rob would mentor 2 SI leaders, as he often taught 4 sections of MATH 155. One thing I respected about Rob was how thorough and meticulous he was in ensuring that his class had a high-quality SI leader. We exchanged several phone calls and brainstormed many candidates, but his intention always stayed the same, which was in the best interest of his students.
Alessia Scotti, Professor Kantzes’s current SI Leader, had this to say: “Professor Kantzes is not only a good teacher, but also someone who is willing to help in any situation. He cares for his students, paces his lessons in a good manner, and allows time for practice and questions which really helped me when I was his student last semester. This semester I got to see it from a different point of view, as his SI! He always makes sure that I announce my sessions at the beginning of every class, encourages others to go, and checks in on me as a student. I truly wish him a happy retirement!”

While I am sad that we will no longer be working with Rob after this semester, I am happy that he will have time for relaxation and rejuvenation in his retirement. And while he may technically retire, Rob will always be considered a partner and a friend of the CSA. The CSA Campus Champion award is just a small way that I would like to honor Rob for his major contributions to the SI program and to student success.
