For me, the most important part of being an educator is having a genuine caring for my students and their goals. Science is far more than memorization, mandatory attendance, and a dry collection of facts. The ability to think critically goes beyond the classroom and I encourage students to use and practice the skills we teach them in their daily lives. Science is an exciting field and, as I have seen in my teaching and mentoring experience, enthusiasm is contagious. My responsibility is to provide students of all backgrounds the opportunity to explore their passion and curiosities, as those drive the desire to learn and this interest facilitates comprehension and the retention of information for future application.
